Josephine Schiphorst (1957) is a Dutch contemporary abstract artist based in The Hague, the Netherlands.

Primarely selftaught, Schiphorst developed her artistic vision through intensive mentorships under renowned Dutch masters, starting at the "Vrije Akademie "in Heerlen, later in The Hague at the Academy "Koorenhuis" under Eric Dordregter and for more than 15 years with the The Hague based abstract paintress Rineke Kop. 

Her work is deeptly rooted in the tradition of informal art and abstract expressionism, characterized by a powerful tactile presence and a sophisticated harmony of color. Over the years, Schiphorst has built a distinct and recognizable style that captures emotional depth through structure, attracting private collectors both nationally and internationally.

Techniques: 

"My artwork is an ongoing exploration of texture, rhythm, and time. I am fascinated by the interplay between control and coincidence, which I express through a layered mixed-media technique using acrylics, plaster, wrapping paper, and jute on linen canvasses.

By building up and peeling away layers, I create weathered, organic surfaces that evoke a sense of history and transience. Inspired by elements of nature and architecture,  my paintings do not dictate a narrative but invite the viewer to navigate their own emotional landscape through the rich, tactile relief of the canvas."
